Powdery Mildew: 1 tsp baking soda 1 tsp soap flakes 1 L water Shake in bottle and use as
a spray. Be sure to spray undersides too. Plant resistant cultivars. Spray weekly with
powered sulphur. Ensure good air circulation. Return to List
Aphids: 1 garlic bulb 3-5 jalapeno peppers 1 L water Whirl in blender; let soak a bit.
Strain and use in spritzer. Gather aphid infested leaves and put in blender jar. Add a
few soap flakes and whirl in blender until liquefied. Strain through fine sieve
or a piece of muslin cloth. Use as spray for aphids. Insecticidal soap. Return to List
Carrot Fly: Save coffee grounds and sprinkle along each side of carrot row. This
keeps adult flies away from plants and prevents them from laying eggs. Return to List
Deer: Cut bars of Irish Spring soap in chunks and tie the chunks to twigs or stakes.
Place around shrubs and trees that deer have damaged. Be sure to put high enough that
deer will get the odour.

Aloe Vera: Cut leaf and rub onto cuts, scrapes, sunburn and insect bites.

Slugs: 2 tbsp sugar 2 drops of dish detergent 1 cup water Mix. Place in containers and
sink into soil around plants. Beer works too. Save rind of grapefruit haves. Cut little
"v" on two places on the edge of rind. Place upside down around the infested plants.
Each morning go out and inspect rinds for slugs. Gather slugs and destroy them.
Sprinkle wood ashes around the base of plants to keep slugs away. Powdered ginger.

Earwigs: 1 tbsp vegetable oil 1 tbsp molasses 1 tbsp dry yeast 1 cup water Mix well and
place in a small plastic container (500ml like a cottage cheese container). Bury the
container to ground level. Earwigs, snails and slugs will be trapped and drowned in
dishes of beer.

Wasps: Inflate a paper bag and tie a string around the top. Tie it near your doors to
keep insects and flies away. It's supposed to look like a wasp nest.

Potato Beetles & Cabbage Butterflies: Sprinkle cumin on leaves that are infested.
Damping Off:When planting seeds in trays, water well and sprinkle cinnamon over
surface of soil.

(Vegetable oil closes uo their air space and suffocates them.) Rubbing alcohol can be
used to rid a plant of mealbugs. Use 70% alcohol and 30% water in a small spray bottle.
Spray on the mealbugs.

Ants: Use equal parts of sugar and baking powder. Place aroud area.

Black Spot: Remove and destroy leaves. Weekly powdered sulphur. Plant resistant

Spider Mites : Douse with water-spray forcefully. Use insecticidal soap. Keep soil moist,
but not wet. Companion plants - onions, garlic, chives. Soap Sprays Buttermilk spray:
Mix 1/2 cup buttermilk and 4 cups wheat flour in 5 gallons (20L) of water.

Garlic spray: Finely chop one garlic bulb with 1 Tbsp. of cayenne pepper.
Soak in 1 quart warm water for at least 1 hour. Strain. Add 1 tsp. liquid dish soap
and spray. Avoid getting into your eyes. Push pencil sized sticks of aromtic cedar into
the soil - 3 or 4 per pot.

Bug Juice: Collect about 1/2 cup of the insect. Put it into 2 cups of water in a
blender. Strain. Put 1/4 cup in 1 galloon water and spray - aphids, beabeetles,
tomato worms, cutworms, army worms, stickbugs, slugs.

Raccoons: Plant squash or pumpkin vines with corn to keep raccoons away.

Fertilizers: Potassium - rost banana peels until crisp. Grind and sprinkle on soil
surface. Calcium - crumble roasted egg shells. Dissolve 1/2 tsp. Knox gelatin in 4 L.
water. Add 2 tea bags, 1/2 tsp kid's shampoo, 1/2 tsp. liquid ammonia, 1 cup whiskey,
1 cup apple juice 1 tsp. powdered all purpose fertilizer. Use this mix to water any
plant. Most plants will bloom better with a bit of apply on the soil surface.

Plant Mist: 1 quart water 3 drops liquid ammonia 3 drops tobacco juice Add last 3 drops
antiseptic mouthwash Plant Insect Spray: 4 L. water 30 ml. antiseptic mouthwash 30 ml.
tobacco juice 30 ml. kid's shampoo To make tobacco juice: Add 3 pouches snuff or chewing
tobacco to 9 oz of water. Let soak. Do not get on hands. It can be poisonous to the
skin.

Vinegar: Vinegar can be used to kill weeds but should not be used frequently in the same
area and care must be taken not to spray turf or other plants. Fill a spray bottle with undiluted vinegar,
or with 3 parts vinegar and one part dishwashing liquid. Spray the weeds in a narrow stream dousing the
weed’s leaves and crown.
